Brothers Under 'Control Orders'... But What Exactly Does This Mean?

* Control orders enable the Home Secretary to impose an unlimited range of restrictions on any person he suspects of involvement in terrorism.

* They were created by the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 ('PTA'), in response to the House of Lord’s ruling against the detention powers in Part IV of the Anti-terrorism Crime and Security Act 2001.

* The restrictions imposed by control orders amount to house arrest. They include controls on who a person can meet with or speak to; as well restrictions on when a person can leave their house and where they can go.

* They have undermined the rights and freedoms of not only the men subject to them but also their families.

* Control orders undermine the presumption of innocence - allowing Ministers to punish someone without requiring them to prove that they have committed any crime.

* They undermine the separation of powers and the right to a fair trial - the decision to impose a control order is made by the Home Secretary and is based on secret evidence which the individual concerned is unable to see and powerless to dispute.

control orders ar vicious, hhugs has helped an armless disabled brother who was dumped in a random flat, he was given no phone, and not aloud out - he did not have any food
Alhamdulillah volunteers from hhugs bought a phone with special dials and started a food rota for him.

May Allah bless those people for helping these brothers

Inshallah, Allah(swt) will make it easy for those under control orders and all those brothers, sisters and families who have been effected by the 'war on terror'.

"At 80, Haji Nusrat -- detainee No. 1009 -- is Guantanamo Bay's oldest prisoner. A stroke 15 years ago left him partly paralyzed. He cannot stand up without assistance and hobbles to the bathroom behind a walker. Despite his paralysis, his swollen legs and feet are tightly cuffed and shackled to the floor. He says that his shoes are too tight and that he needs new ones. NOTE: Individuals should note that while we have had it confirmed from one of the US lawyers who has visited Guantanamo, that the US government do allow mail from non-family members, all mail is subject to extreme delays as well as censors. Only a few released detainees we spoke to had received mail from non-relatives, in spite of many having been sent. However, letter-writing can be considered a protest action, as it sends a strong message to the US administration that the world has not forgotten the prisoners in Guantanamo, but rather is immensely concerned about what is occuring in Cuba. ** Ways In Which You Can Help ** Write to the detainees to remind them that the ummah have not forgotten them. * Donate or volunteer with Cageprsioners in order to enable them to carry out further research in order to locate the 1000's missing. * Donate or volunteer with Hhugs to aid the brother's families (who have lost their breadwinner in most cases) with their day to day lives. * Generally raise awareness about the effect the war on terror has on the innocent brothers and their families.
