New Film About Guantanamo Bay Premiers In Málaga

Director Vicente Peñarrocha, with actors Natalia Verbeke and Rupert Evans

A joint Spanish-British production about the horror of Guantanamo Bay has arrived at the Málaga Film Festival. ‘Arritmia’ from the Director Vicente Peñarrocha, has been shot in English and stars Rupert Evans, Derek Jacobi, and Natalia Verbeke.

The film relates the experiences of an Arab prisoner in Guantanamo who manages to escape and reach La Habana. The director said the script was re-written several times during production and because permission to film in Cuba was not forthcoming the base at Guantanamo was finally built in the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante.

Rupert Evans revealed that while he was researching Guantanamo on the Internet he received emails from the CIA who were questioning his interest in the jail. The film still has no date for its official release.
